Sustainabilty & environmental commitment

We undertake to continuously improve our environmental performance.

Sustainabilty. Environmental. Commitment.

SUSTAINABILITY AS THE BASIS OF OUR ACTIONS

Sustainability in economic, ecological, and social aspects is a central concern for the Art Deco Hotel Montana in Lucerne. We care for the environment, use our resources sparingly, and maintain relationships with each other based on respect, trust, and openness. This value-oriented approach is committed to future generations: we take responsibility and act accordingly

HOLISTIC UNDERSTANDING OF SUSTAINABILITY
The Art Deco Hotel Montana applies a systemic approach to defining sustainability. According to this view, the environment, society, and economy are interrelated and dependent on each other. Society and the economy are subsystems of the environment and nature.

Environmental sustainability

The topic of ecological sustainability is being pursued across all areas.

  • Supported by advancing digitalization and the possibility of app-based internal communication, much less is printed on paper.
  • Our gastronomy is characterized by seasonal and regional dishes, food waste is avoided whenever possible, and our leftovers do not end up in the trash, but in our in-house biotrans plant.
  • Ecologically sustainable cleaning agents and reusable bottles are used in the accommodation, which means that large containers can be purchased and the amount of waste that would be produced by using disposable bottles is avoided.
  • In addition to the sustainability activities in everyday hotel life, the vast majority of employees also travel to work ecologically, whether by public transport, on foot or by bicycle.

Social sustainability

It is fair to say that social sustainability is currently the most important dimension for us. We want to make it possible for all our employees to have the financial opportunity to act sustainably.

  • We have deliberately focused our vision on the team. We have set ourselves the goal of ensuring that all employees at Montana receive a monthly salary of CHF 5,000 by 2026. A visionary and very ambitious goal that is worth fighting for with various instruments and means!
  • Anniversaries are not uncommon at Montana, with up to 30 years of service, which makes us proud and confirms our commitment to our employees.
  • We are also socially responsible in the area of employee integration. With the GASTRO-GO integration project, we enable those affected, such as refugees, to receive sound training with practical transfer in real operations. In this project, we are already in the third round of taking on Ukrainian trainees in various areas. This project was named one of the most successful integration programs by SRF and we are happy to be a part of it and to have already gained two permanent positions from it.
  • Benefits are very important to us. A wide range of offers, from sport to leisure, catering, internal offers and much more, provides an advantage for all employees.
  • In addition to benefits, training, support for further training and internal promotion and position opportunities also play a major role. We train young talent in all professions in the catering and hotel industry.
  • With all these aspects, we distinguish ourselves as a very socially oriented company where team spirit and cooperation are paramount. We confirm and demonstrate this to the outside world with our membership of Fairjob Hotels, which we joined in June 2024.

Economic sustainability

  • An important factor is that the funds we generate are reinvested and the renovations lead to the maintenance of the property in order to keep pace with the market in terms of competition or even to take on a pioneering role.
  • In the event of sales success, all employees receive a 1:1 share in the form of a bonus. This acknowledges and recognizes the outstanding performance of our employees that has led to such a successful result.
  • Generous gifts are given every year at Christmas and from the 3rd anniversary onwards to further emphasize our gratitude.
  • As the owner, it is important to the “Hotel & Gastro Union” that the profits are available to the hotel for future renovations. Conversely, this means that investments must always be generated from the hotel's own funds.
  • It is important to us that the added value remains in the region or at least in Switzerland. This is particularly taken into account in the procurement of everyday goods, but also for larger investments.
